Youth Opportunity Apprenticeship Program

The YOAP (Youth Opportunity Apprenticeship Program) program is a partnership between CDPS and the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, the Urban League of Cincinnati, the National Urban League, the United States Department of Labor and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

Program Objective

The goal of this partnership is to provide a continuum of services to ensure a seamless transition for inmates to post release-registered apprenticeships programs and ongoing supportive services.

  1. Develop employment and apprenticeship opportunities for participants of the Youthful Offender Apprenticeship Program with existing apprenticeship programs.
  2. Administer a barriers assessment to program participants in the institution prior to release.
  3. Facilitate workshops and trainings on successful reentry and job readiness in the institution twice a month.
  4. Provide intensive case management and linkages to referral services and ongoing case management for participants to a Mentor / Life Coach and provide retention services and ongoing case management for participants enrolled in post release apprenticeship program.
